MTR® P Pillar
Structural innovation for high-performance construction
Composite steel-concrete column, known as CFT (Concrete Filled Tube), characterised by high-level structural performance
The MTR® P column represents the technological evolution of prefabricated framed structural systems.
Its cross-section, identified by the acronym CFT (Concrete Filled Steel Tube), consists of a steel tube filled with concrete and optional reinforcement, and is capable of delivering high-level structural performance.
The MTR® P column performs significantly better than any other existing type of column. This construction solution combines the load-bearing capacity of the steel tube with that of the reinforced concrete section, while also producing the mutual enhancement effects that, in this specific configuration, concrete and steel are able to exchange. The infill concrete increases the stability of the hollow steel section, which in turn provides a confining action that raises its compressive strength.
Result: slender columns with high performance.
Characteristics of the MTR® P Column
Steel structure
Structural steel S235 – S275 – S355 in accordance with UNI EN ISO 10025-2.
Cast-In-Place Concrete
C28/35 – C35/40 – C40/45 – C45/50
Internal reinforcement
B450C steel – up to 6% of the concrete cross-sectional area.
Cross section
Square, rectangular or circular (double axis of symmetry).
Welding
Continuous wire welding under shielding gas (Process EN ISO 4063-135) is carried out in compliance with NTC 2018.
Fire resistance
R60/90/120 thanks to the internal concrete mass with B450C reinforcement up to 6% Ac.
Confined joints
The MTR® P column does not require beams for joint confinement; the steel plate of the tube performs this function, ensuring complete confinement of the structure’s joints.

Types
Support Systems and Structural Connections
The MTR® P column does not require the presence of beams to achieve the confinement of its joints, as the steel plate of the tube effectively compensates for their absence; therefore, the use of the MTR® P column achieves complete confinement of the joints of the structural system into which it is integrated.
Beam-column connection
The column is prefabricated in the workshop in multi-bay modular components, whose individual elements are equipped with steel support systems located at the upper end, where the MTR® beams rest during the initial construction phase, allowing rapid and precise assembly of the entire structure.
